Outbound Camp

Today, I got back from the four day outbound camp in Arkansas. It was a great chance to meet all of the other outbound exchange students, learn more about what I should expect during my exchange, meet the awesome ROTEX and Rotarians, and feel what it will be like to not rely on my phone all the time. I won't go into detail about the camp, however, I found that I am very introverted but will need to be able to step out of my comfort zone to fully experience the culture of Bolivia. (The attached picture is of the other outbounds from my district, District 5650.) Right now it looks like I will be leaving from the United States around August 10 or 11. My host family is very generous to take me in. Their daughter will be an exchange student here in the US while I am abroad, but I have had the chance to talk with her a little on Facebook. I will also finally have the chance to have a younger sibling as I will have an 11 year old host brother! (: In less than two months I will be able to meet my entire host family and I can't wait.

Overview of Exchange

I am really looking forward to being an exchange student in Sucre, Bolivia, this coming school year! For those of you who don't know where that is, it's in South America and they speak Spanish. I will be leaving sometime in late July or early August and returning next summer. Their summer vacation is during the months of December and January while their school year actually starts February 1st - so I will arrive in the middle of their school year. The school I will be going to is called Juan Enrique Pestalozzi, and I will stay with 2-3 different host families throughout the year. I am very thankful to the Rotary Club for giving me the opportunity to go on this exchange and I can't wait to learn about a new culture, improve my Spanish, and meet new people!
